Accent’s Aids and Adaptations team are here to support our customers to live as independently as possible in their own properties. Their aim is to try to keep people in their own homes, meet any medical needs and to live there as safely and independently as possible.

The team are responsible for coordinating major home adaptations such as level access or stairlift installations, and minor adaptations to properties in partnership with our maintenance team, local contractors and local authorities.

Case Study: Helping our customer regain independence

When a customer needed some adaptations to their home to help with independent living, we set to work arranging the adaptations with our contractor. The work, which included a shower, aqua boards and a wet floor, meant several visits would be needed before it was complete. We confirmed arrangements with the customer, who was more than happy, and work began.

Everything went as planned and our customer, who has now had their independence restored, told us they were “over the moon” with the work done. The customer was also surprised with the level of investment we had made – they had been worried they might have to pay. When we said that wasn’t the case, they said “I can’t believe that, I’ve never heard anything like it.”

Our customer said, “I have noticed a huge improvement with my overall health and wellbeing following my bathroom adaptations. You have helped me feel more comfortable living in my own home and given me the ability to use the bathroom facilities independently, safely and without the support of my family.”

Adaptations are subject to a referral from an Occupational Therapist and appropriate funding.
