Gas safety advice

If you’re a renting tenant of ours, we’ll check the gas, oil and solid fuel appliances we’ve placed in your home every year to ensure they’re up to standard. This is the law.

When your annual safety check is due, a contractor from the Gas Safe register will get in touch with you to set a time for an appointment. They can work around your schedule if you’re busy, but you must allow them access for a safety check. If you obstruct this process, we can legally go to court to gain access.

If you're concerned you've not had your annual gas safety test and would like to know when your next test is due please drop us a line via the form on our Contact us page.

What should I do if there’s a gas leak?

If you think you have a gas leak, don’t panic.

First, turn off your gas at the meter if you can. Don’t smoke, don’t use any naked flames, and don’t turn any lights or electrical switches on or off. Open all your doors and windows to get some fresh air circulating.

Go outside and call the gas emergency number 0800 111 999.

Gas safety when you’re a homeowner

If you’re a homeowner, it’s unlikely we’ll check your gas, oil or solid fuel appliances as we’re not responsible for this maintenance.

You’ll need to arrange to have your appliances checked yourself. This is extremely important and could save your life.

How do you monitor carbon monoxide?

Unsafe gas appliances can leak lethal carbon monoxide gas. The gas can’t be seen and it has no smell.

We supply carbon monoxide detectors and if they detect the poisonous gas, they sound an alarm. If you don’t have a detector, let us know and we will fit one with our next safety check.

That said, you should always listen to your instincts, even if you have a carbon monoxide detector and your appliances have been recently serviced. If you feel sick or can smell gas, get outside and call your GP.

If you think a specific appliance is faulty, stop using it. If the appliance is yours, call the Gas Safe Register on 0800 408 5500. If it’s one of ours, phone us right away on 0345 678 0555.
